What is the ESE exam?

The ESE exam is the Engineering Services examination. This exam consists of 3 stages I. e. Prelims, Mains, and Interviews. ESE is a national-level examination conducted by UPSC for engineers. UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts the ESE Exam as an entrance test on a yearly basis to recruit engineering students in different sectors like Telecommunication, Railways, Public Works, CWC, CPES, NHAI, Border Roads, CPWD, IDSE, MS Naval Armaments, etc. Exam pattern of the ESE exam: Exam Mode: Offline (paper pen) The selection process is done through 3 steps: 1- Prelims 2- Mains 3- Interview Number of Papers Prelims - 2 Mains - 2 Total Marks: 1300 Marks Prelims - 500 Marks Mains - 600 Marks Interview - 200 marks ESE engineer posts: 1- At the time of joining work as Assistant Director or Assistant Executive Engineer. 2- After the experience of 3 to 4 years, work as an executive engineer, director, or work manager. 3- After the experience of 8 years, work as deputy general manager or joint director 4- After the experience of 13 years, work as joint general manager or chief engineer of level 2. 5- After the experience of 20 years, work as chief engineer or additional general manager. 6- After the experience of 30 years, you work as a senior general manager or engineer-in-chief. 7- After the experience of 34 years you become a chairman or managing director of a governmental organisation. ESE also known as IES is Engineering Services Examination. ESE is conducted annually by UPSC to recruit engineers in four domains namely Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunications for the techno managerial posts. The examination constitutes a two-stage written examination followed by an interview. ESE is considered as one of the toughest examinations in India due to fewer posts. Owing to highly competitive selection procedure, IES officers carry high respect and status and are mandated to manage and execute activities in diverse technical and managerial fields. These candidates after the final selection are posted in various Ministries and Departments of GOI such as Railways, Telecom, Border Roads, CPWD, CWC, CPES, NHAI, Naval Armaments, IDSE, MS Ordnance Factories etc. , however, the selected candidates can move to any cadre, organisation, agency, department, ministry and PSU of the Government of India. All these final selected candidates are designated as class-1 officers. Eligibility criteria for the ESE/IES exam are: A candidate must be either: A citizen of India orA subject of Nepal or A subject of Bhutan orA Tibetan refugee who came to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India orA person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
