    It has three stages examinations, shortlisting, and lastly the interview. The exam has two stages online examination and the interview. There are two papers in the online examination for 100 marks each. There is a negative marking for each correct answer for 0.25 marks.

    The preliminary exam of the SBI exam usually comprises questions from the English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. The total marks of the prelims exam are 100. The Mains exam comprises, Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness, and English Language. SBI PO Mains exam also comprises a descriptive test.
