The Union Public Service Commission's civil service exam pattern is officially divided into two stages called the preliminary and main examination, while in practice it is a three-stage exam. The third is the personality test PI or interview. Union Public Service Commission's Prelims consist of 2 papers, namely, General Studies I and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). While the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is qualifying in nature, the marks obtained in the General Studies paper determine your selection for Union Public Service Commission's Mains. UPSC (union public service commission) exam also known as IAS exam consists of 3 stages - Prelims, Mains, and Interview. UPSC CSE Prelims consists of two papers namely General Studies I and CSAT (General Studies Paper-II). While CSAT is qualifying in nature, the marks obtained in the General Studies paper determine your selection for UPSC Mains. It means your score in the General Studies Paper will be considered for the Prelims cutoff.
