On September 11, 1976, Sri Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, the Indian president at the time, gave it his formal opening. The Governor of Andhra Pradesh issued the A.P. Universities Ordinance, 2004, which changed its name to Acharya Nagarjuna University. To meet the demands of the local population for higher education, Andhra University established a Post-Graduate Centre at Maddi in 1976 under the name Bala Tripura Sundaramma Polytechnic, Nallapadu, Guntur District in Andhra Pradesh.</p>
