The full form of IES in the context of the exam you are referring to is "Indian Engineering Services." The Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam is a prestigious examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit engineers for various government posts. It is also known as the Engineering Services Examination (ESE).

The names IES is akin to IAS. As the IAS are recruited through the Civil Service Exam but the candidates popularly called it as IAS exam in the same way the candidates for IES are recruited throught the Engineering Service Exam but it is popularly called as the IES exam.
