The full form of NEET is National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. It is a national level examination performed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the purpose of admitting students into undergraduate medical programs (MBBS, BDS) offered by the government as well as private medical colleges in the country. NEET is one of the toughest exams for medical aspirants in the country and in fact a nationwide examination.
NEET Exam Details:
Eligibility:
Candidate must have passed or be appearing in 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) as the major subjects.
Minimum Age: 17 years as of December 31 of examination year.
For general category candidates, the percentage in class 12 th standard must be above a certain minimum percentage, which is generally around 50%, while in some cases this may be flexible for reserved categories.
Exam Pattern:
The NEET exam is a pen and paper based test with a total of 180 questions, with 45 questions each from Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Time Duration: 3 hours.
Marking Scheme: Each correct answer is awarded +4 marks and wrong answer attracts -1 marks.
The total score is of 720 marks.
Syllabus: The Syllabus for NEET is as prescribed by the NCERT for classes 11 and 12. Here is the breakdown:
Physics: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, Electrostatics, etc.
Chemistry: Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry which include Chemical bonding, Organic reactions etc.
Biology: Botany, Zoology which cover topics such as Cell Biology, Ecology, Genetics etc.

Application Process:
The exam is usually held one time in a year in the month of May, the application is invited few months prior to the exam date.
Candidates have to complete the online application and pay the application fee.

The card for NEET is made available over the internet, while examination centers exist within India and abroad as well.

Once the test has been administered, it is scored and the seats are filled up through a counselling where ensnare merit is considered.
