    The IRS (IT) officers are part of the Revenue Service of India. The IRS (IT) officer gets his first posting as an assistant commissioner of income tax. From this post, they can advance up to the highest position of principal chief commissioner of income tax. It is the apex designation of an IRS (IT) officer, and afterwards they can become a member or chairperson of CBDT. They play an important role in policy formulation and tax settlement and even ACT as a quasi-judicial authority in matters of tax rules.
