What is the history of Japanese courses?

<p>A. Japanese language courses have been established in India since the early 1950s. It was the Ministry of Defence which began offering the course in their affiliated School of Foreign Languages in 1954 and a Japanese department was set up, making it the first University in the nation to offer a course in the Japanese language. The University of Delhi followed suit and established its Japanese Studies Centre in 1969, the University of Pune established a course in 1977 and Jawaharlal Nehru offered a doctorate in the Japanese language in 1982.</p>
