What is the major difference between Gmail and Email?

Gmail is Google's Email (like Ymail by Yahoo) payed by the advertisements shown to the users. Like many other Email systems, Gmail has both web and POP interfaces, which let you access your mail either through a browser or through a mail reader such as Outlook or your phone.
