The major difference between LLM and M.Phil lies in the nature of the degree program. M Phil is a research-based degree. It implies that M.Phil is a specific study taken on any particular aspect of law. LLM, on the other hand, is taught and not that specific. M Phil is a postgraduate research degree. Instead of having a fixed curriculum to be taught, it is basically an independent project that an individual does on his own. Although you generally work under the supervisor, there is generally no time bound restrictions with respect to thesis submission and assessments. The eligibility of M.Phil degree may be based on the university from which you plan to pursue. While some may require only Bachelor's degree, others might also require Master's degree. LLM, on the other hand, is subject area specific and not topic specific. The eligibility for LLM is only a Bachelor's degree in law. Hope this helps.
