What is the meaning of lateral entry?

I am doing a course in 15-17 session. Can I take admission in an another course in the academic session 16-18 through lateral entry?

    Lateral entry is generally associated with the B.Tech course. A student can get directly into second year of engineering, if he has done his/her Diploma after class 10th. The condition that you have mentioned does not come under lateral entry, it is considered as course change.
