The answer to this question has two aspects. The first answer is zero. Yes, there is no guarantee that you will definitely get a job or a quality placement as you are a student of IIT and NIT. NIT being prestigious institutions are well funded and have a nice curriculum which teaches a lot of things and make a student able to face a competitive era. It is true that a lot of hard work is required to get into these institutions but the same is required to survive in them too.
Now the second aspect of the answer, if you have chosen a good branch, your chances will be much higher of getting a good placement.

7 years agoI think no engineering college guarantees placement to its students.In fact, engineering colleges are there to make you an engineering. Even the students of IIT endup jobless.
The condition of NITs (except the top NITs) is worst. Many newly established NITs are still struggling for campus and well as faculty members.
I am not saying that you should expect nothing. It is up to you and your calibre to get a good job offer.The placement cell can only invite the companies for you. Getting a job or not depends on you. Now, there are a lot of details missing in the question, with that being, which out of all the NITs you are willing to join (because not all of them are good), secondly, which branch are you willing to pursue? You are concerned about the placements, how many core companies visit the NIT for your respective department is also something that you must take into consideration.
On an average, being in a National Institute of Technology would ensure you the best of the placements in the country after IIT, and some private colleges like BITS, and a few others.
