It's a 3-year programme that offers courses and training in various Hotel Management and Hospitality courses. Programmes under STEP are-The Kitchen Operations Programme, The Hotel Operations Programme. STEP is an opportunity for students to participate in a three-year programme that offers practical training at a hotel of The Oberoi Group. You will be trained in the four core operational departments of a hotel: Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage Service and Kitchen. The STEP Programme happens to be in 2 major areas: 1. Hotel Operations Programme 2. Kitchen Operations Programme The first round is a Group Introduction round in which you are supposed to introduce your partner and not yourself. Just basic communication skills, as well as confidence along with fluency and command over English language, is marked upon here. If you clear this round and make it to the next one, The second round is a Personal Interview. In the Personal Interview, you are checked upon your basic aptitude, your presence of mind, general awareness and whether you are passionate about working with them or not. STEP (Systematic Training and Education Programme) is a 3-year programme for students who are between 18 to 20 years of age and have completed or are about to complete class XII. STEP offers comprehensive on the job training in kitchen operations or hotel operations (Front Office / Food and Beverage Service focus and Housekeeping focus) at selected hotels of The Oberoi Group. Alongside training, STEP also facilitates education through a correspondence Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Studies from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Upon completion of STEP including the undergraduate studies from IGNOU, you are eligible to join The Oberoi Centre of Learning and development OCLD or Oberoi Central Employment Register OCER. The application process for STEP begins in February each year. STEP takes admission through group discussion and personal interview only. There is no entrance exam for STEP. Therefore for STEP, you need to just work on your communication skill and prepare the current affairs well. You can prepare for GD and PI with the help of Youtube videos there are numerous videos available on Youtube. Or, If there is an institute in your area for GD PI preparation, you can join that also. In my opinion, Oberoi STEP is not a good choice as there is no systematic learning, you can't learn everything in a hotel, there are certain concepts that are essential for a manager to know should be taught in the classroom only. They offer two Programmes under STEP: -The Kitchen Operations Programme: The Kitchen Operations Programme involves training in Western and Indian kitchens and specialist sections such as bakery, pastry and cold kitchen. The Hotel Operations Programme -The Hotel Operations Programme consists of two streams: I. Front Office / Food and Beverage Service focus ii. Housekeeping focus Admissions are based on the Oberoi STEP exams that are held every year. The eligibility of the program is min. 10+2 with 50% marks and should be above 18 years and below 20 year of age. The course is definitely a plus on the resume, as Oberoi is leading hotel chain that would have the best infrastructure and faculty for the Oberoi STEP course.
