What is the procedure for admission at IIT?

The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) is a common admission test for students seeking admission to undergraduate programmes of all IITs and ISM Dhanbad. To be eligible to write JEE Advanced the candidates have to first appear in the JEE Main conducted by JEE Apex Board, in the month of April.

<p>The admissions in Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), and government. Funded Technological Institutions (GFTIs) are based on ranks obtained in JEE Advanced JEE Main and JEE Main respectively. JEE Main is the first entrance exam conducted twice in an year (In January and April every year). The ranks of JEE Main entrance exam are considered for admission in NITs and GFTIs. While ranks obtained in JEE Advanced are considered for admissions in IITs. JEE Advanced entrance exam is conducted among the qualifiers of JEE Main exam in the month of May every year. The highest ranks takers (Below 10000) of JEE Advanced are eligible to take admission in desired IITs. National Testing Authority NTA is entrance exam conducting authority for The JEE Main and Advanced.&nbsp;The eligibility criteria for appearing in JEE Main entrance exam is 10+2 with Physics, Math and any one among Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject. Candidates appearing in 12th are also eligible to apply for JEE Main entrance exam. Candidates can participate in JEE Main entrance exam for 3 consecutive years. The admission criteria for IITs, NITs and GFTIs : Candidates should have obtained a minimum of 75% marks in class 12 or equivalent exam or they must be in the top 20 percentile in their class 12 examination. For SC/ ST, the eligibility is to obtain a minimum of 65% marks in class 12 or equivalent.</p>
