An applicant to the Ph.D programme at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences should meet one of the following requirements:
1) The applicant should have obtained at least 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST) in M.A. or equivalent degree in Humanities / Social Sciences subjects, OR
2) A First Class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in Masters degree in Science / Commerce / Graduate Degree in Engineering / Technology will be considered for research areas consistent with the academic background and special interests of the applicant, OR

After completing your Masters with min 55% you need to qualify tests such as GATE/CSIR-NET/ JEST and TIFR /NEST /SLET, etc. If you qualify written, then you'll be called for interview. In some university you'll be required to undergo their separate written test and interview. PhD is offered in two modes: Part Time and Full Time.
Part Time: A candidate has to attend classes on weekends. Full Time: A candidate has to attend regular classes (56 days a week).
