During your 11 and 12th study, prepare for entrance exams - State level, University level or even National level. Some of the exams are JEE, AIEEE KCET EAMCET etc. Do the entrance exam preparation simultaneously as you do the 10+2.
10+2 marks and entrance exams are the basic qualification to enter into engineering. Choose the branch in engineering according to your interests and job and career prospects. You can talk to people doing engineering and by online research about colleges and courses in each of them. Take your time and research during the 10+2 to make a informed choice.
