Orthopedic surgeons are medical doctors who specialise in treating the musculoskeletal system; they may specialise in areas such as sports medicine or hand surgery. The orthopedic surgery career path requires 8-9 years of post-baccalaureate education, along with continued maintenance of board certification.

Aspirants have to follow a multi-stage process to become an orthopaedic surgeon. They have to pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the main subjects. Candidates have to undergo a four year MBBS course following which an MD in orthopaedics should be done. Aspirants become qualified to practice as orthopaedic surgeons on the completion of all these stages.
