    The basis of promotion in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is both merit- and seniority-based. The promotion rule for SI is as follows:
    1. Initially, their first posting is as a sub-inspector in the RPF.
    2. Later, sub-inspectors are promoted to the rank of inspector with 8 years of regular service.
    3. Their next promotion after certain years is to the post of Circle Inspector.
    4. After another 8 or 10 years of service, the SI is promoted to the rank of Zonal Inspector in their particular railway zone.
    5. If the SI joined at a young age and did exceptionally well in performing their duty, they might reach the post of Deputy Superintend
