To being an animator, you must complete class 12th and must learn animation principles, tool and technics, knowledge of 2D, sketching, anatomy, acting, posing and facial expression is always a plus point.
To being an animation director, you must have huge experience in animation field as a senior artist, you must have handled several animated movies and series and worked in several such projects.
