    JIPMER is a public institute established in 1964 under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It was declared an 'Institution of National Importance' in 2008. The institute offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, super-specialty, and post-doctoral programmes in medical and health sciences.

    According to the latest NIRF rankings for 2023, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry is ranked 5th among medical colleges in India. In the previous year's NIRF rankings for 2022, JIPMER was ranked 6th.
