What is the role of AAI?

Hi Manisha, The Airports Authority of India (AAI) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation is responsible for creating, upgrading, maintaining and managing civil aviation infrastructure in India.Airports Authority of India (AAI) is responsible for creation development and management of Air Cargo Terminals for processing of international air cargo (export, import , transshipment and courier consignment) at international and domestic airports in India. The Air cargo Terminals managed by AAI are at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata (international airports) and Nagpur, Guwahati, Lucknow and Coimbatore (domestics airports). -Role of AAI at Cargo Terminals :- AAI acts as custodian of import cargo. The terminals are developed as a Common User facility to avoid duplication. All agencies such as Customs, Airlines, Agents and regulatory and facilitating agencies under one roof. At IGI Airport, AAI acts as a complete Terminal Operator including airlines functions of acceptance and unitization of export and destuffing of Import cargo for all 50 scheduled and non-scheduled airlines.
