    ANM must make sure that breastfeeding begins within an hour of delivery or birth, whether it's a hospital childbirth or a home birth. To ensure optimal birth spacing, she must arrange with mother at time of discharge and follow essential measures for family planning counselling.

    Expectant mother and her family must be advised to have delivery handled at home by a skilled birth attendant such as an ANM, Staff Nurse, or Doctor if there is no operating health centre or hospital within reach or if family prefers a home delivery.
