The exam is for only those aspirants who are interested either in teaching or in research. Through UGC NET Exam candidates are selected for the post of Assistant Professor. Only a few deserving candidates are also awarded for Junior Research Fellowship through NET Exam. I know a candidate who appeared in NET Exam in Sociology subject. After qualifying the UGC NET he became an Assistant Professor in a university situated in Chandigarh.
