    Petroleum engineers are one of the highest paid engineering disciplines as the demand for oil and gas is very high all over the world. Therefore, they require such professionals who can extract maximum oil and gas. The job prospects of a petroleum engineer are very high as compared to others. Broadly speaking, the domain of Petroleum engineering deals with the study, exploration, extraction and distribution of oil and natural gas reserves available on the earth.     Petroleum Engineering is one of the most interesting and rewarding career opportunities available to engineering students in India. The rising scarcity of petroleum products coupled with expansion in search operations for new petroleum sources has brought the field again in the limelight.     A lot of companies directly or through consultancies hire Indian for foreign locations. Also, in oil & gas industry one can directly apply to outside India and can expect to be hired if have a good profile. So prospects are not bad. But, as far I have seen it - oil & gas industry doesn't really work the way all other when it comes to picking candidates. Someone, just going to college and finishing with good grades might find it difficult to land a desired job. This industry looks for people with a lot of people and management skill.
