What is the scope of specialisation in energy laws?

Energy Law as a specialization is still in its infancy in India. However, for long energy sector has been a sector ridden with regulatory, economical, political, social and commercial nuances. Wherever these factors are working together, it is a ripe place for legal interventions. And therefore, there is enough scope for anyone with a good legal background to make a name for herself in the sector. However, to be a good lawyer in the energy sector, you don’t really need a specialization in energy laws (specially at the undergraduate level). Exposure to the basics of the sector and to regulations will definitely benefit you, but in my opinion, before being a good energy sector lawyer, you must be a good lawyer in the first place. Now that you can ensure with some hard work at many good institutes in India. Again though, I’ll also add that it will certainly help if you have read a little about the interplay between economics and law. Especially because most of the energy sector is governed, administered and regulated by the regulations notified by the concerned authorities.
