The selection process for B.Des at Kings Cornerstone International College (KCIC) is a two-step process that involves:
Step 1: Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or KCIC DAT.
Cleared either KCIC DAT or any other popular design entrance exam like NIFT, CEED, and Pearson UCEED for the applicant. The candidate’s abilities at designing are evaluated in this regard by these tests that look into the person’s imagination potential, problem solving potential as well as the visual communication abilities of the individual.
Step 2: Portfolio Review and Interview
The short listed candidates undergo another test- the portfolio review and second interview (Step 2). A portfolio review is used to measure the quality of the candidates’ designs, in terms of innovation, level of mastery, and articulation. This assessment tests on communicational abilities, design approach and the compatibility of the candidate with B.Des program.
For every year, the minimum percentage score by KCAT in order to qualify for admission into B.Des at KCI is determined by the number of applicants and how competitive the programme is. Despite this, typically, a KCAT percentile greater than 70% is regarded as competitive for entry into B. Degree at KCIC.

Academic performance: It is good to have very good grades in 10+2 especially on mathematics Science and arts.
Extracurricular activities: It is advisable that the candidate should take part in additional extracurricular activities such as design competitions workshop and internship so as to prove his love of design which supports the entire curriculum.
Portfolio strength: The success of the candidate depends on how great his/her portfolio speaks about creativity, problem solving skill and communication of design concepts.
Interview performance: Such a strong interview wherein the candidate can describe his/her design thoughts well and show the zeal of being chosen goes far in terms of providing the admission.
