What is the selection process for IES (Indian Engineering Services)?

Indian Engineering Services (IES) are the civil services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the Government of India. IES examination is conducted by UPSC to fill engineers requirements in railways, roads, defense, manufacturing, inspection, supply, construction, public works, power, telecommunications, etc. All appointments of IES are to the Group A services i.e Class I. Candidates selected through IES have the opportunities to grow up to the top posts in central government organisations. Eligibility criteria for appearing in IES is at least a Bachelors degree in engineering (BE / B. Tech) from a recognized university or equivalent M.Sc degree or its equivalent with wireless communications, electronics, radio physics or radio engineering as special subjects also acceptable for certain services / posts only.
