What is the system of merit lists? Is it that people who are wait listed get a chance in the 2nd merit list?

Hello, people selected in the first merit list stand a chance for upgradation in the second list. Also the people in the waiting list get selected.

If you're in the waiting list, then you definitely stand a chance. So those who get selected in the first list are given a certain time to pay fees and confirm admission. Some of them do, some don't. After first list, many seats remain vacant. In the second list, those in waiting list in the first list make the second list. Same process will for those who have been selected in the second list. This goes on till third list. If someone backs out after paying the fees, then those in the waiting list in third list get chance for admission.
