A relaxation of five years in age criteria is given to candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC and PwD. Women candidates of all categories are also given age relaxation. This means that the upper age limit for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Women candidates is 35 years if they apply for the role of JRF.

The UGC Junior Research Fellowship has an actual age limit for unreserved or the general categories is 30years as per the National Testing Agency. But for the reserved categories that is the SC, ST, OBC, NCL, Women candidates, Persons with Disabilities, etc. the age limit is succeded by 5years thus, they have an age limit of 35years.
