What Mechanical engineering is all about?

Mechanical Engineering deals with the concepts of mechanics, thermodynamics, robotics, kinematics, structural mechanics, fluid mechanics, power sector, refrigeration, air conditioning sector and aerospace. It applies the principles of physics and material Science for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. Through innovation and inventions, it has given humanity at large comfort and safety for life. Mechanical engineers are required to design, test, manufacture, install, operate and maintain a wide array of machines and mechanical systems that are used in industries. This field of engineering is the broadest of all engineering fields, job prospects on offer for skilled engineers are plenty and unending. Nowadays the scope of mechanical engineering is expanding beyond its traditional boundaries and is more of inter-disciplinary in nature. Mechanical engineers are focusing their attention towards new areas such as nanotechnology, development of composite materials, biomedical applications, and environmental conservation. Mechanical engineering is a professional programme which helps students to understand the working mechanisms of heavy tools and machinery. The branch applies principles of engineering, physics and material Science for the design, analysis, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineering is one of the most diverse and versatile engineering fields, mechanical engineering is the study of objects and systems in motion. As such, the field of mechanical engineering touches virtually every aspect of modern life, including the human body, a highly complex machine. The role of a mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea to the marketplace. To accomplish this, the mechanical engineer must be able to determine the forces and thermal environment that a product, its parts, or its subsystems will encounter; design them for functionality, aesthetics, and durability; and determine the best manufacturing approach that will ensure operation without failure. Mechanical engineers play key roles in a wide range of industries including automotive, aerospace, biotechnology, computers, electronics, micro electro mechanical systems, energy conversion, robotics and automation, and manufacturing. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) currently lists 36 technical divisions, from advanced energy systems and aerospace engineering to solid-waste engineering and textile engineering. There are various type of courses available in Mechanical like Diploma, UG, PG and Ph.D. The UG B.E/B.Tech degree holders can apply in UPSC, State government. , PSUs, defence etc. Railway, CPWD and Defence are the major recruiters of Mechanical engineers. Scope of Mechanical Engineering : Mechanical Engineering covers aspects like design and testing among others. The job demands supervision and planning of live projects related to thermal power plants, nuclear stations, generation of electricity, etc. There are employment opportunities for Diploma holders who have practical knowledge of working on fields like testing of machinery etc. The emerging fields in this area include renewable energy, automobiles, quality control, Industrial Automation, Mechanobiology.
