Hello Dehradun almost 15 years ago. It has a specialized school of design studies. A well-known public private university, has established itself quite well in academic circles about faculty and good placements cell. It is an all compassing subject. Without realizing we come across it in our day to day life. Design of a product, design of a machine, design of a utility, etc. Just take example of two mundane products. Soap and motorcycle.
