What qualities and skills should one possess to become a columnist?

A columnist is a journalist contributing regularly usually in a series to a newspaper or magazine. Columns appear in newspapers, magazines and other publications, including blogs. The job would be to collect and analyze facts about newsworthy events by interview, investigation, or observation and to report and write stories for newspaper, news magazine, radio, or television. So for this one needs to have a lot of reading, thinking and writing capabilities. The following are some of the important skills to be possessed by a columnist: 1) Active Reading and writing skills 2)Keen listening ability 3)Speaking and presenting skills 4)Critical thinking with social perspectives 5)Time management skills 6)Problem-solving skills 7)Good language proficiency They also need to have patience and stress tolerance to manage their work environment. Columnists are distinguishable by writing style, which allows them to grow a dedicated readership. A columnist must always deliver a unique and interesting column in order to keep readers hooked. And so, creativity and analytical thinking would be the important qualities that make a columnist unique and popular among the readers.

A columnist is a writer who has reached the level of a 'favorite' because people read the writings as published at regular intervals and in a schedule in known printed platforms. A columnist is also the writer who knows the best of the ways to pen down the observations and has a subtle style to his possession which remains distinct than others. A columnist is a well-read person himself and has always been an avid reader. To be a Columnist, one has to start writing. There are people who blog and also contribute to chosen newspapers and magazines. The selection is not just done by the employers or the publishers; readers also have a lot to do with the making of a columnist. The qualities of a columnist-writer-author are as follows: 1. Writing in a style that keeps the readers connected and attracted. 2. Excellent grammar and vocabulary. 3. An extraordinary sense of humor as well as precision. 4. Awareness about the contemporary happenings and neutral approach to share the things.
