What qualities and skills should one possess to become a reporter?

There are few skill sets that are required for an individual to become a reporter in the media fields. They all can be considered as the most important thing that one must possess within himself or herself to achieve the dream. Reporters can also be termed as the watchdogs of the society because they are mirror to this society. One should have the right eyes to judge the truth of the story that he/she is going to report. He/she must also dig out the facts and figures and cross check each and every aspect of the story so that he/she can be confident enough to submit his/her work for the further proceedings. You must always improve your communication skills as they will be required to ask the relevant details from the public being just a commoner. There will be few situations in which you must keep yourself fit and proper mind set should be done so that you can handle the situation before reporting because reporting can be done later but if the situation gets worsen it can't be brought back. You should possess multiple personalities within yourself and change according to the situation because you never know what the situation demands for.

Hello, Before knowing all the qualities of a reporter it is important to know who the reporter is. What do they do? Reporters are the one who visit at fields where a particular event takes place. Whether it's the print media or the electronic media reporters are required to visit at the place to collect all the necessary information and details. The information collected by the reporter needs to be correct, and rechecked by the senior journalist so the wrong information is not imparted to the public. Whatever the information is collected by the reporter is converted as news and publicized among the readers or viewers.The job of a reporter is concerned to be little typical and challenging one because who knows when an event will take place and at what time. Reporters are not even given any sort of comfort, if they really want to appear as a the best reporter and want to get into the list of promoting employees than its really important for them to get fully devoted to their task and comes out from their comfort zone. If it’s all about knowing the qualities and skills of the reporter than the major one is language skill. It is really important for the reporter to prepare themselves the best in the language they love. Whenever you apply as a reporter, organisation tends to find out that how much you are good at you language, your command on your language. Being a reporter you need to be a good listener, because their job is to listen to the people, victims, witness, police, etc. It is important to mention all the required information in your write up and that information need to be authenticated and true. Moreover, reporter has to be alert and must have a good number of sources to get the information of any event on correct time because in this competitive world every media house makes a competition with another to get the information as soon as possible and to print/publish it quickly. A strong desire to unearth the truth and a disciplined and passionate person would make a good reporter. Skills that you need to possess are: 1. Accuracy- There is no room for error you must make sure you get accurate news. 2. Curiosity - curiosity is very useful unless you are curious you won't be able to dig out all the information regarding a topic you need to report. 3. You should possess good interviewing skills. You should be able to ask relevant question at right time you should not be intimidated by other person. 4. Some level of sense of humor is also required. 5. You should report news in a detached attached manner that is neither too involved nor to detached. 6. Good speaking skills are also needed to be a good reporter.

A reporter is a type of journalist who researches, writes, and reports on information in order to present in sources, conduct interviews, engage in research and make reports. Reporters may split their time between working in a newsroom and going out to witness events or interviewing people. What makes a good reporter? 1. A reporters must have good news hunting capacity. Endless curiosity and finding out more is what he/she should always keep alive inside. 2. Reporter should not be biased and he/she must always be in ever- ready mode. 3. Command over language and speech is a must to be a good reporter. 4. A good reporter should be courageous and confident. Without courage and confidence it is difficult for a person to be a good reporter. 5. Credibility is something that every good reporter should have. In other words, a reporter must exhibit characters and behaviors that make him or her to be believed and trusted by people. 6. Healthy skepticism is a quality a reporter must possess. A reporter should always be factual and accurate. 7. A reporter should be able to work fast and enthusiastically on any given story. News writing especially has a lot to do with deadlines. 8. Outgoing and patience is a prerequisite to be a reporter. You should be able to interact with most powerful people with utmost ease. Waiting at an event or working for long hours is something a reporter must be used to. Last but not the least a reporter should be able to take corrections and criticisms in the course of performing their job.

Hello! My advise would be to just watch a news channel in which a reporter is giving you live information about an accident, you will automatically know what you need. But to be more clear for this query, I would say that below mentioned are some of the basic qualities and skills that you must have to be a good reporter. (#) Good Vocabulary: You should have to select the best possible words to describe a particular situation. Until and unless you have the right words for the situation, the listeners will no longer be interested in yours. You can read a newspaper or any magazine daily for this. (#) Melodic voice: your voice should not be blurred. Make sure that you don't fable while thinking. If you stammer a lot while speaking, it makes a negative impact on your reporting career. Theoretically speaking, a reporters needs to have nose for news. He/she should have the sense to differentiate between what is newsy and what is not. Next in line comes good speaking skills. For instance, if a reporter knows that a fire incident has taken place in the building next to his/her - but doesn't have the extrovert speaking skills to talk with fire department officials/locals stuck in the building/eye-witnesses then having a news sense in the first place doesn't help. Because unless one talks to the people at the spot, the story cannot develop further. Thirdly good writing/anchoring skills - depending whether you're a reporter working for a newspaper/Television. In either case, a command over your language is a must - which can be helpful in anchoring/writing of the news report with all the 5Ws- What, Where, When, Why, Who and How - in the most accurate, short and crisp manner.

A reporter is a person who discovers information about news events and describes them for a newspaper, magazine, radio or television or a person employed by a newspaper, magazine, or television company to gather and report the news. Being a reporter is not an easy task. One needs to have a good passion and determination. A person to be a good reporter needs to have: 1)The ability to adapt and learn as technology changes 2)Storytelling across mediums 3)Writing across platforms, including Web writing 4)Researching and guiding 5)Curiosity and ability to raise questions 6)Strong technical skills 7)Ability to manage, moderate and participate in interactivity 8)Data management skills 9)Energy and passion 10)Good communication skills and interactivity 11)Good listening and speaking skills 12)Excellent language proficiency (depending on the region of work) 13)Dedication and passion to work Though the reporters in top firms are paid well, they need to work really hard with a passion. A reporter with good experience and skills will only be recognised and sometimes rewarded.
