What qualities and skills should one possess to become a TV correspondent?

Hello! Nowadays, the demand for TV correspondents is rising at a very fast pace. They need to be skilled and qualified enough to fulfill the demand of industry and can sustain in the company. TV correspondents are mainly designated for research, formulations and modification of the current news events to make it presentable. There are various qualities and skills that one must have to be a TV Correspondent; (#) Good Statistical knowledge: The candidates are very much preferred who are from the background of the statistical stream. This helps you to make a good data structure. (#) Data Mining: This is the most desirable quality that every job demands. This helps you to extract the data from various primary and secondary source to make it into a meaningful structure. (#) Team work and coordination: Generally, the TV Correspondent works in a small team with big projects. This requires you to be very participative with the team. Hi, While TV correspondents and correspondents for print have many similarities, what makes the TV reporters different from those in print is their confidence in front of the camera. Not only should a TV correspondent be accurate (especially if he/she is LIVE) and have current affairs handy (which the print ones can still sit back and search on the internet before sending their final report), but also ensure excellent speaking skills. A TV correspondent should be confident enough to face camera and should know the tricks to keep a check on his facial expressions when facing the camera. All of this can be learnt practically - either during internships or during graduation/post-graduation courses in journalism and mass communication. Also, the TV correspondent should have the skills to take in breaking news as and when it comes - especially on live TV.

Pursuing career as TV correspondent can be fun but challenging too. You must have an excellent communication skill. Be versatile, create your own style and be very strong with your research. You must be very presentable and should be aware with all the technical aptitudes. Being a correspondent doesn't mean you just have to present news. Be ready for interviews, shoot footage, reports everything. Be a team player. Be friendly with all the people you helps you (like cameramen, technician etc.). You should be accurate and be up-to-date. A correspondent should be courageous and confident. Without courage and confidence it is difficult for a person to be a good correspondent. A good correspondent should be able to gather facts in a very careful and accurate way. He/she must be good at asking the right questions at the right time. He/she should know how to handle the situation, if something happens. Be spontaneous as well as credible.

Reporting from the field, not sitting in the luxurious studio news desk, differentiates the correspondent from the anchor. A television correspondent- I.e. - News reporter is the person who has the responsibility of Reaching to the news, collection and submission of the news to the channel for the circulation by going on-air. The basic qualities and skills needed in a media professional are commonly known like communication skills, proper internships/training, language skills, public relation skills, personality which looks smart to all, screen presence and smart looks, flawless non-verbal communication skills. Along with the above, vast general knowledge, good writing skills (for scripts to the filed stories), voice over writing skills, voice quality as well as knowledge about handling a camera which records news.

It comes from the journalist's commitment to being a student of the news. 2. Ability to process new information: Sorting, organizing, prioritizing and retaining massive amounts of incoming data. 3. Ethical compass: Sensitivity to ethical landmines that often litter the field of live breaking news - unconfirmed information, graphic video, words that potentially panic, endanger public safety or security or words that add pain to already traumatized victims and those who care about them. 4. Command of the language: Dead-on grammar, syntax, pronunciation, tone and storytelling - no matter how stressed or tired the anchor or reporter may be. 5. Interviewing finesse: An instinct for what people need and want to know, for what elements are missing from the story, and the ability to draw information by skillful, informed questioning and by listening. 6.
