What should I do to pursue engineering? Should I drop an year?

Dropping an year is not a good idea. I recommend you to check for admission in private universities and side by side you can prepare for your JEE, and what ever will be taught in first year will make you prepare for JEE too. In case you will not able to qualify JEE in next year, you can continue you
