What was the eligibility criteria for NET in the year 1989, when NET exam was introduced?

NET exam was introduced in the year 1989 by UGC (University Grants commission) and CSIRand conducted by National testing Agency (NTA). The candidate should score atleast 55% in master's degree or equivalent examination from UGC recognised colleges.

Answer is not satisfactory,because,just I got the information that for net and jrf ,required percentage was 50% for general caste,my question is again that what was then for sc/st students?
