When do I mention the post for which I want to take the UPSC exam?

<p>For the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) you do not specify the post for which you want to apply at the time of the exam. The process is structured as follows:</p><p>1. Preliminary Exam: You first appear for the preliminary exam. This exam is qualifying in nature and does not determine your final rank.</p><p>2. Main Exam: If you qualify the prelims you appear for the Mains exam. This includes written papers and an interview.</p><p>3. Service Allocation: After you pass the Mains exam and the interview your final rank is determined based on your cumulative score from the Mains written exam and the interview. At this stage, you will be asked to fill a Detailed Application Form (DAF).</p><p>4. Post Preference: In the DAF you will mention your preferences for various services/posts (like IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS etc.). Based on your rank, preferences and the availability of vacancies you will be allocated a specific post.</p><p>This allocation process happens after the final results are declared and is based on merit and your preferences mentioned in the DAF</p>
