It's a good idea to start thinking about preparing for GMAT GRE and IELTS as early as possible, even if you're in your second year of B.Tech. Well the answer depends on your calibre if you're really a fast learner then start at least 7 months before appearing. Time is inversely proportional to your calibre.

You can start preparing for these exams in your 3rd year if you are planning to write them in your final year. One year would be more than enough if you can spend an hour or two everyday.
