KJ Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce was established in September 1959. The institute is one of the premier institutions on the Somaiya Vidyavihar campus, enjoys linguistic minority status, is permanently affiliated with the University of Mumbai, and is recognised by UGC under 2 (f) and 12 (b) of the U.G.C. Act.
