B.Com is a 3-year course and by the time you reach the final year, you will be eligible to enrol for CAT.
So, I would suggest you join a coaching class now. The earlier the better. In that way, you will get enough time to prepare and there won't be any chance for the loophole. Since CAT is a tough nut to crack.
There are different sections, that will equally need to be focused on.
And being a B.Com graduate myself, I can say that, especially for quants you will be needing time to prepare.
Good luck. -
I think in the third year you should take CAT coaching. In the second year, you are advised to study for CAT at home.

The best time for you will be at the start or in the mid of your final year. In my opinion, it is very tough to crack CAT without proper guidance. So, as per me, you must join coaching classes because they properly guide you for the preparation of CAT. They will teach you according to the exam pattern, in classes you got all the latest information about CAT. Every time the teach you new questions, etc.
