Aircraft Maintenance Engineering or "AME" is a training programme that imparts training to students on how to maintain aircraft so that they are safe to fly. There are two streams in this. One is mechanical stream and the other is avionics stream. This training runs for about three years. There are lots of practicals in the course and all the institutions try to give it on real aircraft or dummy. These colleges are spread across length and breadth of India. Aircraft maintenance engineering is not a degree or a Diploma course, but a training programme. On completion of the training, a license is issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
During the training, lessons are imparted for service and maintenance of aircraft so as to ensure flight safety. A 3-year aircraft maintenance engineering license training course is being offered by several institutes approved by the DGCA.
