Besides, few colleagues of mine who have previously worked in the same Deptt. So, following are the highlights of Civil engineering in LPU: -
1. Most of the faculty staff is from reputed organizations with their the highest degree from various reputed institutes such as IITs, NITs, etc. Apart from that, faculty have got previous industrial experience also.
2. The capstone project is an integral part of B.Tech programme in which students have to pick a live project based on practical problem-based scenario (ideally from industry) and work for six months under a mentor and present a report at the end. This is beneficial to enhance your presentation skills.
3. There is an internship programme which could be an opportunity for getting work experience and increase your chance to get employment after you pass out. But, of course, your academic record should be good to get this placement option.
4. Industrial visits are organized to nearby construction sites from time to time. There, you can SEE actual construction work going on. Be prepare to have dust on your shoes (believe me, it will be worth a lot). You have to ask questions yourself and trigger interest in the activities around you.
5. You will get some courses from soft skills, English language, mental and on analytical aptitude side. This sounds dull to you as of now. But you will feel its importance when you face an interview panel in a company during your placement drives.
6. They have very good placement records and good infrastructure companies visit their campus, L & T, Simplex Piles Ltd, Era Infrastructure, Gammon India Ltd to name a few.
7. Career oriented Software training in project labs is given. To work in this profession, you are supposed to be familiar with software like MS-Project, STAAD Pro, MX Road, etc. None the less, you will be trained in Auto CAD in your second year which is pre requisite for any Civil Engineer.
8. Every theory course is complemented with relevant lab based practical work. Some of the labs are based on field testing where experimental work is to be done, e. g. Soil Lab & Surveying Lab.
