So choose a program that teaches you these software. It would not matter whether the programme is called game design programme or not. Rest, to become a level designer you must have a passion for game design. Also you must have passion for playing all kinds of games including card games, dice games, sports etc. The 3rd option is Game Design (it's different from Game Designer), where you design the game itself, i.e. what happens on each level, and how things go about as well as the base story of the game. It is a stage that you reach due to your vast knowledge and passion and even exceptional technical skills cannot help you reach. This is usually the story designer. May I ask, have you ever designed a game? Finally, to do game programming you would require knowledge of programming in which usually a BTech/MCA would help. Hello Nischal, Gaming is a highly exciting, youthful career. It needs lot of passion, patience and Creativity to become Game Designer. Ensure that you possess it. Liking Games is one thing and making Career in it is completely different. Gaming is still in its nascent stage in India. Till date there are very few appropriate programs available for Game Art Design. You could also do a Animation and Digital Media program which covers all the aspects desired to become an avid designer for game contents. Such course not only prepares you for Gaming but also for Animation Studios, Production Houses, Web, Ad agencies, Home entertainment through TV, e-learning etc. At this juncture try to learn artistic skills as much as possible like drawing, acting, sketching, painting etc. You may check desired profile on top few Game Co's like Sony, Microsoft, Disney Indiagames, Zynga, Veda Games, Gameloft, Kreeda etc. For career as Game developer you must pursue an Engineering Degree. Dear Nischal, when you talk about career, the thing that matters most is your growth and career. interest also plays an important role. As per the current industry scenario, there are too many career options but animation and design provides you a great future with stability and satisfaction. As far as gaming is concerned, it depends whether you are interested in design or development, however both offer a good career growth. For designing the only skill required is imagination and passion. Being a designer, you're required to design the environment or the character as per the requirement and specialization, on software like Autodesk Maya or 3DS Max and asset integration on Unity where as to become a developer, you must have a good knowledge of programming languages.
