Going by the present standards, there is no subject which is perfectly scoring. It all depends on how you perform. Still science is optional and in humanities, geography and sociology are quite scoring. But this year, toppers have got huge marks in optional like public administration which is considered as not so scoring.
Hence, choose that subject in which you really have interest. If it's your graduation subject, it would be preferable. But even then, you can choose any other. Just be prepared to study it continuously. So choose that subject which you can read again and again.

The exam of UPSE is all just to testify your knowledge, command over the subject and the dedication. According to me, the highest scoring subject in exam is one in which you are 100% confident about and have a lot of interest.

    Hi,
If we look at the trend, Political Science is winning.
2016 results show, most of toppers had Political Science and scored 65% marks in it.
    That is huge.
    Highest being 326/500
    My favorite subject is Philosophy.
Selected candidates have been scoring pretty well in Philosophy.
Athar Amir 2015 batch got 258
    Air 11 of 2014 batch got 299
So, it is quite mark fetching as well.
Considering the relatively small syllabus that you have to cover for Philosophy, it is worth your time.
But, while selecting for optional the only consideration should be your interest.
    You should enjoy studying it.
I took History as my optional for 2 years, but later I found

UPSC is a high level entrance exam, which needs an extraordinary student who could cracks the exam. So, if someone is really desperate, then he or she will definitely crack the exam. There are many students who were able to crack the exam with surprising subject, which was really hard to score, but they did it. But, according to the general ratio, most people prefer subjects that are scoring. Every year, 100 students out of 1000 are selected, who choose history as their subject. History is a subject that is just like story and can be easily learned and you can score well. You just have to pay attention. Indian History and World History
