Which are the most important topics to focus for XAT preparation?

There is nothing such thing called important topics. This view depends upon the preparation of the exam you are taking. There are a number of exams conducted in India for the MBA. Exams like CAT, XAT, GMAT, MAT, IBSAT, NMAT, SNAP, etc., have some minor tweaking and variations apart from the main sections. Each of these exams have quantitative aptitude, verbal reasoning, logical reasoning and data interpretation, apart from GK or essay writing section in some of the exams. So, you have to prepare accordingly for these exams either by taking coaching classes, correspondence course, by self-preparation or by following recommended books. After you have prepared for the most difficult level questions, you may try to get some question banks for the specific exam you are targeting either offline mode I.e. books for exams or online mode I.e. free question banks websites or paid question banks for practice.

Xavier's Aptitude Test is one of the exams that all students will try. The syllabus is like this: Language Comprehension Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation Logical Reasoning General Awareness These are the major questions which will be asked for XAT. XAT is completely online exam. The exam is divided in 4 sections with 25 MCQs in each section. Total questions are 100. All questions will carry equal marks in XAT. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks and there will be negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer. So I suggest you to try and attend mock test as much as possible. Some of the tips which I suggest you to clear the exam is as follows: 1. Select one of the best coaching centers which offer quality education- TIME is one of the famous coaching centers for CAT and XAT. 2. Dedication- Be focused on the aim which you need to achieve. 3. Try to read Hindu newspaper editorial. Most of the passages which appear in XAT are from Hindu editorial. 4. Try to do a maximum number of online mock tests. You will definitely clear XAT by doing the above. 5. Try to read as much as you can and make note of points. 6. Revision of each week topics is very important. 7. Mathematical ability questions will be little-twisted try to do as faster as you can. These are my tips for you to crack both XAT and CAT.

I would like to answer this question in a different way. Apart from the regular important syllabus topics which can be easily understood by solving practice papers and past year papers, other very important topics are to focus on your self. How to prepare for the paper is the most important topic according to my personal experience. By the way of introduction, I am an alumnus of IIM-Indore (2016 Batch). Following are the areas and tips on which a candidate should focus: -Make daily/weekly targets and pen down each of them. -Revise the syllabus as per the study plan. -Solve previous years questions as per time frame guidelines of the actual exam. This will give you a look and feel of the actual exam. -Manage your time well. -Keep calm and stay cool. -Plan out well and revise the syllabus with the help of tools like, last years papers, mock exams, pressure and speed tests. Hi, Once you get a hang of how the test works, you don't need topics as such for preparation. However, your basics need to be strong, especially in language. Your XAT score is more about how you handle the three hours of the test than how much you have prepared over the last year. I'll try to make this concise. You'll need the following: A good vocabulary & reading comprehension. Learn to read fast. Learn new words every day. This takes time to build, but once you have, half your work is done. XAT questions(even quant questions) use a lot more 'language' than the other B-School entrance tests. Speed. One needs to be able to solve 90 problems in 2-2.5 hours. Believe me, each one of those is a ten minute problem. Your best allies in this area are: Confidence, speed reading, and ability to do fast mental math, especially approximations. The second and third are obvious, but where confidence comes in is- you might have the fastest brain in the whole world, but if you keep re-checking your answers to be sure, trust me you're going nowhere with XAT. Plus, confidence helps you take risks. You'll need that too. Make educated guesses. Eliminate options, and if it comes down to one out of two, guess. Odds are still in your favour. Attempt as many as you can. I had over 90% attempts in all the years. Make sure you're attacking the test, not defending yourself in the examination hall. Stay calm. Never panic. A little adrenalin is okay, but stay calm. Breathe, do yoga/pranayam/tai chi or whatever shit you need to do, but get your shit together. Do not fuss too much over one question or section. Manage your time well. Be good. Be honest. Do the right thing. See both sides of any story. Be mature. Remember "for the greater good". Aaand you'll be through the dreaded decision making. XAT is tuned towards selecting a certain kind of people(rather, people with certain kind of thinking). And for a bloody good reason. And again, always move fast. That's all I can think of now.I'll update if I can think of anything else. PS: The thing about XAT is that everyone thinks it is difficult. And that's exactly why its easy to crack. All the best.

This is an area that checks your management aptitude by presenting different situations and cases, and asks you to identify the best decision in these situations: Verbal & Logical Ability Critical Reasoning & Reading Comprehension Reasoning skills. Quick reading and comprehension skills. Practicing across Mock Tests is essential for superior performance. Decision Making & Analytical Reasoning This is most unique part of the XAT exam. Various business and everyday situations In general, the situations given in these questions set up interesting dilemmas Different types of questions probed in these areas include: ethical dilemmas, financial issues involving sales, revenues etc. of a company, employee management issues and general management scenarios. Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation Geometry, Number Systems, Functions, P&C, Probability and Data Interpretation. General Knowledge Emphasis on economics and business related facts. Preparing current events for the last 6 months is essential. In static GK part, focus on awards, books & authors and geography. XAT Essay Writing The topic is based on either a common phrase or an idiom with a philosophical hint implied within. Evaluating coherence of thoughts, ability to provide logical arguments and your knowledge level.
