Which are the various affiliations and recognitions that an engineering college should have? Which ones are mandatory?

All India Council Of Technical Education also known as AICTE and University grant commission (UGC) are two main bodies which recognise and affiliate institutions in the country. If talking about engineering Colleges then AICTE affiliation is must. But, not in case of Universities. For recognition of universities, University grants commission come into play. An University may be AICTE national board of accreditation (NBA) is another body initially setup by All India council of Technical education under section 10 (u) of AICTE act in 1996. NBA is formed to check the periodic evolution of various profession courses. UGC: The body was set up by union government in accordance to act of 1956 under MHRD. Head quarter of UGC is in Delhi and has six regional center in the whole country. UGC was formed to look after central Universities of Delhi, Banaras and Aligarh. UGC do not recognise Engineering colleges. AICTE: All India Council of Technical Education was first set out as advisory body in 1945 and later it was upgraded to statutory body in 1987 by an act of parliament. Its a national level council under ministry of human resource and development.

It’s a national level council under ministry of human resource and development. Also, colleges may have some other recognitions according to their courses for example if you are in agriculture field then Indian council of agricultural research (ICAR) recognise the college. Mainly, UGC and AICTE are important.

As per my knowledge, these two affiliations are most important for engineering colleges and every engineering institute must have been recognised by these: 1: University Grants Commission of India: The University Grants Commission of India also known as UGC India) is a statutory body set up in accordance with the UGC Act 1956 by the Indian Union government under Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The main Objective of The University Grants Commission of India is determining and maintaining the standards of higher education in India. It makes sure that the organizations recognized are meeting the criteria laid down by the government as the standard for higher education. 2: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE): All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was set up initially as an advisory committee and now regulates the standards of higher education in India. It regulates, planned, decides funds for various educational education institutes in India Every engineering college needs to be recognized by these two organizations and its mandatory. About 330 colleges and universities offer Bachelor's degree programs in engineering that are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and about 250 colleges offer accredited programs in engineering technology. ABET accreditation is based on an examination of an engineering program's student achievement, program improvement, faculty, curricular content, facilities, and institutional commitment. Other accreditation which are highly mandatory are UGC, NBA and AICTE approval which makes a college legitimate for pursuing education. AICTE is must for all. AICTE recognition mean before an engineering college start taking approval from state govt. and state technical university they should fulfill basic requirements for starting an engineering college. AICTE check those minimum conditions at the beginning and gives its approval. Once a college gets an approval from AICTE they can associate themselves with the state technological university for start taking students for engineering studies. Hence, UGC and AICTE are very important.

UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION (UGC) The University Grants Commission of India (UGC India) is a statutory body set up by the Indian Union government in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 under Ministry of Human Resource Development, and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education. It provides recognition to universities in India, and disburses funds to such recognised universities and colleges. Established in November 1945 first as an advisory body and later on in 1987 given statutory status by an Act of Parliament, AICTE is responsible for proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education and management education system in India. The AICTE accredits postgraduate and graduate programs under specific categories at Indian institutions as per its charter.
