All India Council Of Technical Education also known as AICTE and University grant commission (UGC) are two main bodies which recognise and affiliate institutions in the country. If talking about engineering Colleges then AICTE affiliation is must. But, not in case of Universities. For recognition of universities, University grants commission come into play. About 330 colleges and universities offer Bachelor's degree programs in engineering that are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and about 250 colleges offer accredited programs in engineering technology. ABET accreditation is based on an examination of an engineering program's student achievement, program improvement, faculty, curricular content, facilities, and institutional commitment.
Other accreditation which are highly mandatory are UGC, NBA and AICTE approval which makes a college legitimate for pursuing education.
    AICTE is must for all.
