You should choose Electronics rather than Mechanical. This will benefit you for all the fields like hardware and software, and the placements are really good in AKGEC in ECE while placements in Mechanical branch is approximately zero in every college of UPTU. Most of the students are preparing for GATE to get better placements.

It depends on your interest. Both are top branches in their field. Mechanical is a core field from which you can choose some other branches also, but from electronics, you learn a lot too. In terms of placements if you are studying in a good college then both are on the same level.
    Hope this will helps you.
