My sister has started taking a Game Design course online. Because she was looking for an institution rather than a catalog of providers, she opted for NIIT. It is really tough to directly comment on any institute best or not or answer which is the best institute in a city or country , especially for domains like web designing, animation and VFX or gaming etc. where many institutes offer many types of courses for different duration for the almost all the same pipeline . We need to see the content of the course , duration, cost , infra, earlier students outputs and skill developed , in-time course completion record , certification process & delivery of certificate in time etc. Also Same Brand has different centers and branches and fortunately/unfortunately all does not perform the same . Some centers are doing great some not, in vary place to place centers to centers and also on the local management & team. So its always good to visit the institute personally, speak to them, see the track record and then decide if its up to the mark as per your requirement.

Game designing is usually offered at institutes like macc, NIIT, arena etc. In colleges you will find computer science or IT as field of education but not game as specialization. However if you consider studying in Canada then you may have gaming degree

You should not limit your search to your city or to only cities around you but to entire India. Most of the institutes offer certificate & diploma courses in game design. Many of them are not even affiliated to any university. Look for colleges such as MIT, Pune, DSKIC Pune, Artemisia College of Art & Design, Indore (Govt. University), which offer 3-4 years duration in-depth degree courses in Game design. NID Ahemdabad offers Masters degree in Game Design. Do not confuse Game Design with Game programming. Game Design usually would mean the artistic, the creative part of developing a Game. Also remember that without learning 2D Animation, you can become a good game designer. You must develop very good sketching & painting skills also while completing your degree course. Usually you will find game design colleges more expensive than animation colleges. However, usually colleges affiliated to Govt. Universities are cheaper, though it might not be true for all. You must visit each college's website and talk to them by calling them or writing to them.
