Which college is better for B.Tech in CSE: IIT Madras or IIT, Kanpur (IITK)?

100% Placements for CSE students and 20% of them already have PPOs. Moreover, average range for CSE goes from 8 to 20 LPA and hence, makes it an attraction for various students. The college offers state of art Faculty plus best Infrastructure to maintain quality education. With IIT madras, the internships provided here are very minimal for this specialisation specifically and The Placements for CSE is great but overall facilities and faculty structure is mediocre, not all students get exact CSE opportunities and hence, does not have edge over IIT Kanpur Also, average package is lower compared with 5-9 LPA on year in year basis with near 85% Placements on campus. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) was the first department in India to start Computer Science education. It started in August 1963 with an IBM 1620 system - a novelty then, even in many North American and European universities. The department is engaged in research work and developing cutting-edge advances. Many of the nation's leading experts, educationists and consultants in computer science today are the alumni of this department. To compare the colleges, I am not taking account personal factors. Only the college aspects are looked into. If we go with the rankings, IIT Kanpur is following IIT Madras. But believe me, rankings are not everything. There are many other things to take care of. First is the infrastructure and faculty. IIT Kanpur is well known for its infrastructure and facilities. They are excellent. And in terms of academics alone, IIT Kanpur is the leader. Its curriculum is the model of many colleges. Then, there is a thing called 'Coding Culture' in IITs. It is the informal term used to denote the interest of students in Coding. Students from all branches are counted in this. So, Coding culture is better in Kanpur. IIT Madras is not lacking behind, it has good faculty and course but if you are looking for some hard coding years and aspire for Gooogle Summer of Code, you know where you belong.

First of all, whichever degree you pursue, in whichever IIT is going to ensure you that you are in the best hands possible in India. Now to answer your question: 1.First of all, you should give preference to your hometown location and how far your college is to your hometown as there is only a 5-10% difference between every IIT. 2.As per IIT ranking of 2017, IIT Madras happens to be in the lead, while IIT Kanpur happens to lack behind securing a rank of 6th on the same list. 3.If you happen to be a North Indian, adjusting in the South is a little tough, not intending to promote any differences here, it is a little hard to comprehend what the teachers speak in South only because of their accent. But, you eventually will get the hang of it. I have been to both the colleges myself and both of them are at par by means of infrastructure and facilities. The hostel facilities are okay to do with and are a lot cheaper than any other college you take into consideration. I hope you make the right choice. Cheers!

Hello, First of all, a Bachelors education in any stream in any of these IITs carry a golden bullet point in the resume. If you have to choose between IIT-Madras and IIT-Kanpur, the most obvious choice among the two is - IIT-Kanpur CSE. Historically speaking, IIT Kanpur had an edge, once upon a time, due to the fact that it was incubated by American colleges back in the 1960s. The American curriculum of the 1960s (Feynman lectures) got embedded into its ethos, however, the local culture of UP and the dying city of Kanpur also left its mark on it. Because people don't realise what they are missing by not going for IIT-Kanpur CS. It is the most reputable and academically superior course for CSE in the country. Faculty: legends (Godel prize winners), they have much experience in their particular subjects and languages, they are well acquainted with each and every topic too. Academics: you learn deeper and clearer with emphasis on research. People preferred it over rest at a time when they wanted to learn more and there wasn't this craze of metro cities. It is worth attending B.Tech in computer science engineering in Kanpur as per the advice of researchers, executives in top software companies and IIT professors. Hope this helps! All the best!
