Petroleum engineering is more theoretical, but hotel management can be interesting and practical. If you want to get better career options, then as per my personal experience, I would suggest you to opt for hospitality, travel and tourism.
There is a lot of scope for hotel management in India, if done from a reputed institution. Hotel industry is on a high demand and has a wide employment opportunities. The hospitality industry is the second largest in the world. The demand for skilled professionals in the industry is increasing not only in India, but also throughout the world.

Petroleum engineering is a professional degree, where as hotel management is not. If you don't want to worry about studying then choose hotel management. Hotel management is mostly practical based. You can just enjoy doing it. In the present scenario where crude prices are low and many have lost their jobs because of this, its better stay out of it. One more thing, its really unethical to compare these two courses as they are like two different poles. First, be clear whether to do engineering or normal degree. You can also consider courses like marine, harbour, nautical Science etc.

Yes, of course. You can definitely get admission to the BTech in Petroleum Engineering course without giving the entrance exam. There are more than 30 colleges that give admission to the course on the basis of Class 12 board exam marks and may take extra rounds like the GD or PI in such cases.

Interestingly, there are around 12 colleges in Tamil Nadu where students can into top institutions via the TNEA Counselling after Class 12.

The level of competitiveness and difficulty of the entrance exams for BTech Petroleum Engineering depends on the specific exam, whether it is conducted at the national/state/college levels, the number of student applications in general, and the estimated number of seats available for the course at top colleges. But, in general the national-level entrances are considered to be highly competitive and require extra effort from your end.
